1. Cook the bacon in a 12-inch skillet over medium heat for 10 minutes or until crisp. Remove the bacon from the skillet and drain on paper towels. Pour off all but 2 tablespoons drippings.
2. Add the onions to the skillet and cook for 15 minutes or until well browned and caramelized, stirring often. Remove the onions from the skillet, cover and keep warm.
3. Season the beef as desired. Shape the beef into 4 (1/2-inch) burgers.
4. Cook the burgers in the skillet over medium-high heat for 15 minutes or until well browned on both sides and cooked through. Remove the skillet from the heat and top each burger with 2 tablespoons cheese.
5. Spread 1 tablespoon mayonnaise on the bottom half of each bun. Top each with 1 burger, about 1/4 cup onions and 1 slice bacon, cut in half.
